What is StudyZone?
StudyZone is a free, volunteer based, non-profit group tutoring offered in participating King County libraries. StudyZone operates in sessions held by one or two volunteer tutors. We offer specialized tutoring in school subjects and a positive environment to facilitate studying. Due to the nature of drop-ins, a private one-on-one session is not guaranteed.
StudyZone is a 100% free service! No registration or information required, all sessions are drop-in and not limited by time!

Mission
StudyZone's unique mission is to provide a free drop-in tutoring experience around local libraries. Centered around community, StudyZone is designed to bolster local youth participation in their own education and library experience as well as provide a baseline for local tutoring in the area.
In addition, the mission of the King County Library System is to provide free, open and equal access to ideas and information to all members of the community.
The goals of the Study Zone program are to provide students with a positive and consistent environment in which to do their homework and to help students develop effective study skills and better understand the subjects they are learning.
Education
StudyZone offers a wide range of topics at all our locations. Subjects include all school subjects from K-12 including math, science, reading and writing comprehension, history, and various languages.
StudyZone also offers test study practices from the MSP/HSPE, ACT, and SAT as well as the GED for older participants.

Volunteers/Volunteering
StudyZone is also actively looking for volunteers from high schoolers needing volunteer time to retirees looking to give back to community. If you would like to become a StudyZone tutor, please contact us with a phone call or email via the provided contact information below.
Most Study Zone tutors are professional and retired adults. Applicants who are still in high school should be at least 16 years old and a junior or senior and will need to include a teacher or school representative on the application as an academic reference. Study Zone tutors must be able to pass a Washington State Patrol Background Check. We are unable to accept applicants with any form of assault, abuse, or theft convictions for the Study Zone program. The volunteer commitment is two hours, one day per week for an academic semester. Library Study Zone sessions take place during afternoon and evening hours, primarily Sunday through Thursday.
Study Zone substitutes fill in as needed for regular volunteers at one or more libraries. As a substitute tutor you have the option of declining a sub opportunity if you are not available or are already committed to another sub assignment. Being a substitute tutor is a great option if your job has a rotating or variable schedule.
Applications are accepted throughout the school year and there are openings at many locations. If your preferred library is full, you can tutor at a nearby location or be a substitute tutor until a spot opens at your preferred location. Waitlist times vary by library and spaces can open up unexpectedly throughout the year.
